I just wanted to take a minute to remind folks about the rules of debate and logical reasoning.

Today, my friend wrote this blog post today. And it got me all stirred up inside. So let’s take a minute, and give this thing the ol’ college try.

The problem with all of these “rants” from both sides really, boils down to the use of facts or data to substantiate claims. I read this quickly, but I didn’t see a single piece of anything in there that corroborates any of the statements either you or the quoted author made.

In any debate, evidence/facts/data are the backbone of a good argument. Along with avoiding fallacious statements, then you’ll have yourself something to go on.

Here’s a list of logical fallacies when it comes to verbal/written argument

I mean how do you feel about going to work everyday working your ass off knowing that some low life is sitting on their ass watching their new big screen and paying for their food with food stamps that YOU paid for

This is a straw man argument because while that may be a single case, I can come back at that by saying, “Well, we’re paying $700 billion dollars due to the actions of corporate America over the last 20+ years.”

Well the democrats are all for increasing the aid for these types of programs….so as long as your ok with supporting the lazy asses of society with your paycheck then VOTE FOR CHANGE….your change going to other people instead of into your bank account.

This is a double whammy, a touch of ad hominem [defamation of character] and a lot of ’sweeping generalization’.

It is not the job of the government to take my money and spread it out among the people. That’s what they do in China (communism/socialism)!

Cum hoc ergo propter hoc (with this, therefore because of this). Muddling causation with correlation.

Post hoc(with this, therefore because of this). Muddling causation with correlation.

And I’m pretty sure the majority of Americans would rather suffer a bit financially than be oppressed. That seems to be Obama’s idea of a good government and the moment you head towards any type of high socialism, it gets a little scary!

I’ll end on this one, but this is just the end of the second paragraph of the post.

Assumption with a touch of hyperbole (exaggeration). Second course: Appeal to authority, public and numbers. Not to mention another assumption about “it gets a little scary!” which is a loaded statement so full of refuse I’d rather just leave it up to you.
